“Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra officials are betting that a blockbuster lineup will draw audiences to their ‘home-away-from-home,’ Downtown’s Taft Theatre, while Music Hall is under construction next season,” writes Janelle Gelfand in Friday’s (1/14) Cincinnati Enquirer. “Superstars who will visit the orchestra during its transition period include the renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma, piano phenom Lang Lang and legendary violinist Itzhak Perlman. Each of those artists will perform a single-night concert with music director Louis Langrée, to be offered as a special incentive to subscribers. And besides those luminaries, concertgoers will be treated to some of the biggest names on the classical concert circuit.… For his fourth season as music director, Langrée will lead nine concerts of the 18-program subscription season, as well as the three special concerts.” Among the guest conductors are Neeme Järvi, Edo de Waart, John Storgårds, and Juanjo Mena. “Concertgoers will find a strong selection of masterpieces.… And in a more experimental vein, there will also be programs of new music in the MusicNOW Festival.… In anticipation of its move out of its home in Music Hall, which is slated to begin an extensive, $130 million renovation in June, the orchestra spearheaded a $3.2 million renovation of the Taft in 2011.”
