In Sunday (11/3) Cincinnati Enquirer, Janelle Gelfand profiles Louis Langrée, who makes his regular-concert debut as the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra’s music director next weekend. He recently “left his Paris home and spent a week incognito in Cincinnati. The French conductor and his family—wife, Aimée, and children Antoine, 11, and Céleste, 14—were discovering the city, taking in the sights and the restaurants, house-hunting and school-visiting. ‘Cincinnati is not home yet, but here I feel at home, which is even more important,’ Langrée said last weekend.… ‘Art feels essential here, the deep “resonance” of it everywhere—museums, schools, radio stations, architecture, galleries, festivals, theaters, concert halls, CCM, CSO, Pops, May Festival Chorus, opera, ballet. Art feels here like the cement of the city, the community.’ ” Langrée comments on repertoire—a personal highlight will be conducting Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony in March—and on social media: “ ‘I have no tweet account, and no Facebook. I think you can deeply enjoy [music] only if you are deeply focused, immersed in the music. But if you tweet, “OMG, it’s fantastic, cymbals and triangles are playing,” you are not in it. You are making a succession of little events.’ ”
