The Cleveland Orchestra announced that it has chosen three cellists as Artist-in-Residence Fellows for the 2009-10 season: Matthew Allen, Mikala Schmitz, and Avery White. The three, who were selected through a competitive audition process, will study with cellist Alisa Weilerstein during the week of November 16, when Weilerstein will be in Cleveland performing the Dvorák Cello Concerto with The Cleveland Orchestra. Allen, Schmitz, and White will take private lessons with Weilerstein and perform in a public master class on November 18 at Severance Hall’s Reinberger Chamber Hall. Allen is a freshman at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and Schmitz and Waite are both seniors at Oberlin College Conservatory of Music.
