A surprisingly small number of cultural groups, just 11, are vying for a piece of the pie. They include the Denver Botanic Gardens, the Buffalo Bill Museum, Colorado Symphony Orchestra, the National Western Complex and the Museum of Nature and Science.” The money is a result of voter-approved funds for an overhaul of city-owned Boettcher Concert Hall at the Denver Performing Arts Complex. Due to financial difficulties, the Colorado Symphony had been unable to come up with necessary matching funds, but “the actual language [of the bill] said ‘including, but not limited to’ Boettcher. … The Colorado Symphony Orchestra has a swell idea for sure. Separate from the general repairs Boettcher needs, the CSO has suggested the city turn its hall into a state-of-the-art digital venue. With a little outfitting, some cameras, microphones and transmittal technology, the orchestra would be able to simulcast its concerts over the Internet, make downloadable recordings of its concerts, spread its message far and wide in a new medium.”
