In Wednesday’s (11/16) Denver Post, Kyle MacMillan writes, “After shaving 10 concerts from its October-November bill in an emergency bid to cut expenses, the financially resurgent Colorado Symphony has rescheduled two canceled programs and added three performances to its lineup. ‘It does show that we’re here and we’re going to be here,’ said interim chief executive Jim Copenhaver. He acknowledged that the orchestra will incur more expenses with the added concerts, but he said the expected revenue will result in a net gain to the symphony’s bottom line. … The highest-profile addition to the schedule will be ‘Here to Stay: The Gershwin Concert Experience,’ a multimedia program assembled with the assistance of the Gershwin estate. Resident conductor Scott O’Neil will lead the May 4 concert featuring Grammy Award-winning soprano Sylvia McNair and pianist Kevin Cole. Two canceled events have been restored, including a Masterworks program featuring Denver’s Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Ensemble performing to excerpts from Sergei Prokofiev’s ballet, ‘Romeo and Juliet.’ The new dates are March 30 and 31.”
