“Carnegie Mellon University announced on Wednesday that it has appointed a new head for its School of Music,” writes Jordyn Hronec in Wednesday’s (5/4) Pittsburgh Business Times (PA). “Jonathan Bailey Holland will join the university starting August 1, 2022. Holland will take over for the current head, Denis Colwell, who plans to take a year-long sabbatical and return to CMU as a faculty member. Holland most recently served as chair of composition, contemporary music and core studies at Boston Conservatory at Berklee, where he also served as a professor of composition…. Holland’s background also includes serving as the first ever composer-in-residence with the Cincinnati Symphony, and he has been commissioned by the American Composers Orchestra, the American Guild of Organists and artist Arx Duo. Holland said that his plans at CMU involve curriculum and program development and continued commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. ‘Jonathan Bailey Holland is a celebrated creator of new music, a devoted and inspiring teacher, and a leader known for building community,’ Mary Ellen Poole, dean of the College of Fine Arts at CMU, said. ‘We are in very good hands for the adventures ahead.’ ”
