The Metropolitan Opera in New York City is the victim of a cyberattack that has shut down its website and box office for more than 30 hours. A notice on the Met Opera’s website, which is otherwise not functioning, states, “The Met has experienced a cyberattack that has temporarily impacted our network systems, which include our website, box office, and call center. All performances will take place as scheduled; however, at this time we are unable to process new ticket orders or facilitate exchanges and refunds. Once normal operations have resumed, we will honor all refunds and exchanges that we have been unable to process during this period.” The Metropolitan Opera is the largest performing arts organization in the U.S. The source of the attack is not known, but the F.B.I. has been informed of the situation.
