“The Dayton Performing Arts Alliance announced all originally scheduled programming in its 2020-21 ‘Celebrate’ season will not go as planned,” writes Elizabeth Kyle in Sunday’s (12/12) Dayton Business Journal (OH). The organization, which includes the Dayton Philharmonic, Dayton Ballet, and Dayton Opera, “took a careful look about the types of programming that could be [safely] offered… ‘While we are cancelling many of our previously scheduled programs … we are thrilled to also be announcing our DPAA Reimagined Season 2020-21, with 11 new Dayton Ballet, Dayton Opera and Dayton Philharmonic programs,’ said President and CEO Pat McDonald. ‘Access to these performances can be purchased in three ways—via in-theatre tickets, live stream tickets, or a virtual streams membership.’ … Patrons can attend in-theatre performances with socially-distanced, sanitized seating at the Schuster Center and Victoria Theatre. Each performance will be between 50 and 90 minutes each with no intermission, and limited seating is available in each venue…. The season kicks off with its New Year’s Eve performance titled ‘A New Beginning,’ on Dec. 31 and continues into the summer.” In January, Music Director Neal Gittleman will lead the Dayton Philharmonic in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 8 and Florence Price’s Violin Concerto, with Concertmaster Jessica Hung as soloist.
