In Wednesday’s (8/8) News Journal (Wilmington, Delaware), Margie Fishman writes, “In June, a nearly-broke Delaware Symphony Orchestra announced that it would halt its 2012-2013 season. But today, symphony leaders said the orchestra will keep on playing. The DSO is launching a massive restructuring effort to preserve the century-old institution’s long-term health with a scaled-down 2012-2013 season, a new board chair, a new general manager, and a leaner board of directors and administrative team. Among the changes: Starting in October, the DSO will perform a four-concert chamber series at the Hotel DuPont, funded by DuPont Co. The DSO is moving forward with programming for at least four additional classical concerts, beginning in January, including two events at The Grand and two at smaller venues to be determined. Longtime donor Tatiana Copeland was unanimously appointed board chair for a period of one year at a board meeting Monday. … Diana Milburn, former manager of audience development and sales for the DuPont Theatre, is the DSO’s new general manager as of Aug. 1. Milburn replaces Lee Williamson, the DSO’s former executive director … Music Director David Amado has agreed to extend his contract for another year until 2014 and donate 20 percent of his salary back to the symphony until it is on firm financial footing.”
