Wednesday (7/6) on the blog mySA (San Antonio, Texas), Jeanne Jakle writes, “You don’t automatically associate San Antonio’s Ricardo Chavira of ‘Desperate Housewives’ fame with classical music. Let’s be honest: His ABC character, Carlos Solis, doesn’t strike one as a guy who’d relish a highbrow night out with the symphony—unless, of course, it was to butter up business associates. But Texas Public Radio clearly thinks otherwise. Starting Sunday, Chavira begins a new gig as host of this year’s ‘San Antonio Symphony Broadcasts.’ The special series will air at 2 p.m. Sundays on KPAC 88.3 FM in San Antonio and KTXI 90.1 FM in the Hill Country. They will showcase the best of the symphony’s previous artistic season. … This year’s ‘San Antonio Symphony Broadcasts’ feature handpicked performances from the debut season of Symphony Music Director Sebastian Lang-Lessing. … Adding extra oomph to the broadcasts will be interviews with John Clare, producer/host of Texas Public Radio’s ‘Classical Spotlight,’ a weekly program that puts local classical music artists center stage with weekly highlights of area concerts.”
