“The Detroit Symphony Orchestra is coming live to an armchair near you,” writes Jeffrey Kaczmarczyk in Saturday’s (5/7) Grand Rapids Press (Michigan). “The DSO Live Concert Webcast Series opening tonight streams live performances in HD from DSO’s Orchestra Hall in the Motor City. The project builds upon such efforts at New York City’s Metropolitan Opera streaming live performances in the Big Apple to movie theaters around the country and beyond. The DSO’s webcasts, beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, will be available anywhere with an internet connection. … The webcast opens tonight with violinist Leila Josefowicz with Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto. … Guest conductor Arild Remmereit leads the orchestra tonight in Shostakovich’s Festive Overture and Sibelius Symphony No. 2 from Orchestra Hall in the Max M. Fisher Music Center in Detroit. Three more live concerts are coming this month, each on a different day of the week. Each concert will feature a pre-concert show 10 minutes prior to the downbeat and interviews with DSO musicians at intermission. Episodes will be posted at www.dso.org for encore viewing within a week of the live webcast, underwritten by Phillip Wm. Fisher.”
