“The Detroit Symphony Orchestra and Interlochen Center for the Arts announced Monday the revival of a DSO summer residency at the celebrated northern Michigan conservatory and arts school,” writes Michael Hodges in Monday’s (3/25) Detroit News. “The last residency was in 2006. The orchestra will perform a concert July 27 as part of the 2019 Interlochen Arts Festival, and its musicians will be on hand from July 24-28 to teach master classes and work with individual students in the summer camp program. Anne Parsons, the orchestra’s CEO and president, said … after the orchestra’s performance last summer at Bay Harbor … ‘There was wild enthusiasm on the part of both the DSO and Interlochen, which got us all looking forward and thinking what might be possible.’ The arrival last summer of Trey Devey, Interlochen’s new president … also helped spark interest in reconnecting. … The two institutions will collaborate to boost opportunities for students in the DSO’s Civic Youth Ensembles to attend Interlochen’s summer arts camp, with particular emphasis on attracting kids from Detroit.… The DSO’s July 27 evening performance will feature Ravel’s ‘Ma mère l’Oye,’ Saint-Saëns’ Piano Concerto No. 5, and Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances. Conducting will be Matthias Pintscher.”
