The Dream Unfinished, a New York-based orchestra focusing on social-justice issues, will perform a concert focusing on climate change on July 11 at Manhattan’s New York Society for Ethical Culture. WQXR radio host Terrance McKnight will host the concert, which will feature new orchestrations of music by composers from communities impacted by climate change and other environmental issues: Laura Kaminsky, Roberto Sierra, Harry Burleigh, Trevor Weston, Jeff Scott, and Zenobia Powell Perry, conducted by Vimbayi Kaziboni. Also participating in the concert will be speakers and activists including Commissioner Mitchell Silver of the NYC Parks Department, Leslie Velasquez of El Puente, Olivia Wohlgemuth of Earth Uprising, and Karla Pinzon of The Climate Reality Project. The Dream Unfinished was founded by clarinetist Eun Lee in December 2014 after the police killings of Michael Brown and Eric Garner. The orchestra’s debut concert, featuring music by African American composers and Leonard Bernstein, took place July 2015.
