The Eastern Music Festival in Greensboro, North Carolina is holding its first classical guitar program this summer, a ten-day event now underway through July 26. Artists and faculty in the program include Jason Vieaux, Julian Gray, and Kami Rowan, who will work with guitar students during private lessons, classes, seminars, and master classes. At a July 22 concert entitled Classical Guitar Summit, guitarists Gray and Rowan will be joined by guitarist Serap Bastepe-Gray in Triptych for three guitars, by North Carolina native Mark Charles Smith; the program includes works by Peter Schickele and Joaquin Malas. Robert Vernon, principal viola of the Cleveland Orchestra, will also perform in the concert. The EMF Guitar Orchestra Concert and Guitar Competition Finals on July 25 will feature the program’s high school and college-level students performing chamber and large-ensemble works. The festival’s executive director is Chris Williams; Gerard Schwarz serves as music director.
