Oregon’s Eugene Symphony has announced its first-ever instrumental competition. Open to violinists eighteen years old and younger, the competition will take place September 23 in Eugene’s Hult Center. Contestants will play the first movement of one of three selected concertos by Mozart for a panel that will include Music Director Danail Rachev and Concertmistress Kathryn Lucktenberg. The winner will be given the opportunity to perform his or her selection with the orchestra October 20 and 21 in a program entitled The Musical Moods of Mozart. “We are very excited to add this violin competition to our current suite of educational and community engagement programs,” said Eugene Symphony board member and Education Committee Chair Mary Lou Van Rysselberghe. Those interested in participating should contact Operations and Education Director Chris Collins at 541-687-9487 x 102 to schedule a competition time.
