The Eugene Symphony in Oregon reports news of a $100,000 grant from Meyer Memorial Trust to expand its education and community-engagement programs. The grant will be awarded in two allotments: $60,000 for the current season and $40,000 for the 2012-13 season. The funds will help establish a dedicated education department for the orchestra, including a new permanent full-time education director, said Executive Director Paul Winberg. In addition to implementing new community-engagement initiatives, the new education director will establish and oversee partnerships that extend the orchestra’s existing education programs and support the work of its education committee. The grant will also support the planning and implementation of pilot programs designed to increase the geographic scope of the orchestra’s education and community-engagement programs.
