The Fairfax Symphony Orchestra in Virginia has announced details of its 2013-14 season, during which it will expand from six to seven Masterworks programs and will inaugurate a chamber-music series at George Mason University’s Harris Theatre. The season will open with Music Director Christopher Zimmerman leading Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 and two Copland works: Music for the Theatre and the Clarinet Concerto, with soloist Ricardo Morales. The orchestra’s first of two chamber music programs, on January 18, will feature Britten’s Simple Symphony and Serenade for Tenor, Horn, and Strings, as well as Elgar’s Serenade for Strings and Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony in C minor. In November, the orchestra will perform the world premiere of Christopher Theofanidis’s Ordo Virtutem, on a program also featuring Haydn’s Symphony No. 60 (“Il Distratto”) and Stravinsky’s Pulcinella Suite. The season ends in May with Piazzolla’s The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires with violin soloist Guillermo Figueroa, and Orff’s Carmina Burana with the Fairfax Choral Society.
