DilettanteMusic.com has announced that the three finalists in its first Digital Composer-in-Residence competition are David T. Little (United States), Aaron Gervais (Canada), and Chiayu (Taiwan). In June, Dilettante—a London-based online classical-music site established in January 2008—invited composers from around the world to submit works online to be judged by an international panel, with the winner to receive a year-long residency that includes a live performance of a newly commissioned work (date and venue to be announced). The London Sinfonietta has recorded each of the finalists’ works—Sensational Revolution in Medicine for soprano and speaking pianist (Gervais), Zhi for violin and piano (Chiayu), and 1986 for string quartet (Little)—which can be heard at DilettanteMusic.com. Members of the public can vote for their favorite until November 4; on November 5, the London Sinfonietta will perform a concert featuring each of the works at London’s Wilton’s Music Hall, with the winner to be announced at the concert. The winning composer also will receive promotion at the website, a podcast series, online masterclasses, and forum discussions.
