In last Monday’s (3/3) Tampa Bay Business Journal, Devonta Davis writes, “The Florida Orchestra has received two $1 million gifts, with the goal of expanding artistically for Tampa Bay’s largest professional orchestra. The combined $2 million contribution comes from longtime patron and businessman Edward Kaloust and an anonymous donor … The announcement was made at TFO’s gala benefit concert at Ruth Eckerd Hall, featuring cellist Yo-Yo Ma. The donations will aim to bolster the St. Petersburg-based orchestra’s strategic growth initiatives, helping to enhance performances, expand community engagement and strengthen music education across the region. TFO President and CEO Ignacio Barrón Viela, who took the helm in August 2023, emphasized that these gifts provide momentum for the orchestra’s long-term vision. The donations will directly support key initiatives, including: enhanced musical performances, allowing TFO to bring world-class artists and innovative programming to Tampa Bay; stronger music education programs in local schools; greater community outreach, particularly in underserved areas…. [Music Director Michael] Francis said, ‘Live symphonic music has the power to transform communities, and we are honored to carry this mission forward with renewed strength.’ ”
