In the News-Press (Fort Myers, Fla.) on 10/27 (Tuesday), Charles Runnells writes, “Artis-Naples has balanced its operational budget for the first time in at least a decade, the Naples venue announced Tuesday…. The $27 million budget was balanced for the fiscal year ending this past June.” Home to the Naples Philharmonic and the Baker Museum, Artis-Naples “holds more than 300 concerts, shows, exhibits and educational events every year in its 1,477-seat Hayes Hall and elsewhere on its campus.” President and CEO Kathleen van Bergen “credited the Artis-Naples board for its leadership and its support of changes needed to bring the organization out of deficit. Those changes included hiring music director Andrey Boreyko for the Naples Philharmonic, expanding programming and hiring a strong leadership team. ‘As we have looked to improve Artis-Naples, we start every discussion with “How does this best serve our cultural community?” ’ van Bergen said. “We can see the results of this strategy through the incredible generosity of our patrons, with an increase in both participation and philanthropy.”
