In Friday’s (11/9) Charlotte Sun (Port Charlotte, Florida; subscription required), Merab-Michal Favorite writes, “This Charlotte Symphony Orchestra season will be one to remember, as many of the performances also will serve as auditions for a new conductor. At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, a classical concert will be held at The Center for Performing Arts & Education, 701 Carmalita St., Punta Gorda. The performance will be the first of three auditions for applicants hoping to attain a permanent position to replace Maestro Toshimasa Francis Wada, who has served as the conductor of the CSO for four years, but is retiring. … Roderick MacDonald, Matthew Wardell and Raffaele Ponti are now in a three-way competition for Wada’s job. They are the finalists of more than 40 musicians who applied for the position, according to William Fleming, the CSO’s new CEO and chairman of the board. … During each performance, members of the audience will be given surveys to evaluate the conductor.”
