“In honor of German composer Johann Sebastian Bach [1685-1750], Google is launching its first ever AI-powered Google Doodle,” writes Braudie Blais-Billie on Tuesday (3/20) at Pitchfork. “Users will be able to input their own melody, which the Doodle’s machine learning model will craft a harmony to in the Baroque style of Bach. The interactive Doodle was made in partnership with Google Magenta and Google PAIR and will offer facts aimed to help users learn the basic fundamentals of how machine learning works. It’ll be available from March 21 (Bach’s birthday) to 22.”
Bach’s birthday has been celebrated every year since 2010 by Bach in the Subways, launched by cellist Dale Henderson in the subways of New York City. Now taking place internationally, the annual Bach in the Subways concerts feature musicians around the world performing Bach’s music on the street, on subways and metros, in coffee shops, airports, and schools from March 21 to 24.
