The Virginia Beach-based orchestra Symphonicity has formed a partnership with the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, its regular performance venue, and Three Notch’d Brewing Company in celebration of Johann Sebastian Bach, a theme of its 2019-20 season. On October 13, a specially crafted German Altbier Ale called “Bachtoberfest” will make its debut at the orchestra’s first concert of the season at the Sandler Center, led by Music Director Daniel Boothe. The ale will be available for purchase throughout the season at Symphonicity concerts at the Sandler Center as well as in select restaurants in Virginia Beach’s Town Center. Each program in Symphonicity’s 2019-20 masterworks season will open with an orchestral transcription of one of Bach’s piano and organ compositions; October 13 will feature Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, followed by Haydn’s Symphony No. 19 and the premiere of Polo Piatti’s Bohemian Concerto with pianist Thomas Pandolfi. The orchestra’s January 11 family concert, “Bach to the Carnival,” will also focus on Bach with performances of his music plus carnival entertainment and animals.
