The Chicago Sinfonietta is among the many orchestras that have recently announced changes in health and safety protocols for concerts in response to COVID-19. Chicago Sinfonietta’s revised requirements will be in place for its January 16-17 concerts at Symphony Center in Chicago and at Wentz Concert Hall in Naperville. Masks are required for all patrons; patrons five years of age and older are required to provide proof of full vaccination, and those 16 years of age or older must provide a valid photo ID; individuals are expected to self-screen for COVID-19 symptoms prior to entering the concert venue. Enhanced cleaning procedures are in place, and hand sanitizer is provided for guests. Music Director Mei-Ann Chen will lead the orchestra’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. tribute concerts, to feature three Florence Price works—Ethiopia’s Shadow in America, Song of the Dark Virgin, and Night, sung by baritone Will Liverman. Also on the program will be music from Felix Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Jessie Montgomery’s Soul Force, and Artist-in-Residence Kathryn Bostic’s The Great Migration, with Will Liverman as narrator.
