An article in Van magazine reports several allegations by former composition students of sexual harassment at the Juilliard School, the music conservatory in NYC. In addition to anecdotal and first-person accounts, the article cites a 2020 survey conducted by Juilliard in which “11 percent of respondents indicated knowledge of a sexual assault that took place in a Juilliard-related context. Four percent of respondents said they had been a victim of sexual harassment at a Juilliard program or activity…. In a statement, Juilliard spokesperson Rosalie Contreras wrote that … ‘Juilliard has retained an outside law firm to conduct an independent investigation…. Sexual discrimination and sexual harassment have no place in our school community. We take all such allegations extremely seriously.’ ”
