As part of an orchestra rebranding, the Augusta Symphony in Georgia announced that it has adopted the new brand of Symphony Orchestra Augusta (SOA), along with a new logo and mission statement. The orchestra’s board approved the changes at its June 25 meeting, following a board and staff retreat in April. The new mission statement reads in its entirety: “To share the joy of great musical performances with our audience. Together we are music.” The orchestra reports that before the changes were made incoming music director Shizuo Z. Kuwahara and orchestra board members met with sponsors, the orchestra’s support organizations, and government and public school officials. Topics under review included perceptions of the orchestra, including its focus, responsibilities, and relevance to residents of the Central Savannah River Area. The new brand logo will be introduced to the public in the orchestra’s 2009-10 season brochure.
