In breaking news that has been noted on some classical-music blogs but has yet to be reported by a mainstream news source, musicians at 100 orchestras in Germany will strike on Monday, September 30 to protest recent cuts in government support. Many orchestras have closed or merged in recent years, and musicians are concerned about lagging pay increases. Among the orchestras said to be participating are the Berlin Philharmonic as well as the ensembles of Cologne, Dresden, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich, and Stuttgart. We’ll be reporting more on this story as it develops.
