“Closing his 12-year tenure, Music Director John Giordano will say farewell with the Corpus Christi Symphony’s 2015-16 season, which will open Saturday,” writes Esther Hackleman in Friday’s (10/9) Corpus Christi Caller-Times (Texas). “Pianist Andre Watts, renowned for his impressive, more than 50-year career, will perform Wagner’s Prelude to Die Meistersinger, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2, and Brahms’ Symphony No. 4. The following week, Giordano will introduce the city to Grammy-nominated violinist Robert McDuffie for the easily recognized strains of Mozart’s Overture to The Marriage of Figaro, Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C Major. Dec. 12: As winter cold and Christmas cheer begin to set in, the symphony will continue its tradition of performing with the Corpus Christi Chorale and the Del Mar Master Chorus to present yuletide favorites with up-and-coming guest Andrés Franco, recently named music director of the Signature Symphony in Tulsa, Oklahoma.… April 9: Completing the season, Giordano will give his final performance with Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Major, Rachmaninoff’s Vocalise, and Respighi’s Pines of Rome, played by pianist Joyce Yang.”
