Colorado’s Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Charles Latshaw with soloist Kenneth Naito on March 8.

In Sunday’s (3/9) KJCT News (Grand Junction, Colorado), Spence Breed reports, “The Grand Junction Symphony Orchestra partnered with the Art Center to put on performances of ‘Pictures at an Exhibition.’ The shows took place on March 8-9 at the Avalon Theatre. The shows featured the orchestral performances, as well as a showcase of some visual art. The Art Center provided around 16 pieces of art for viewers to look at before and after. The pairing provided benefits for both organizations. ‘This is the perfect opportunity for us to collaborate with the Art Center and showcase how we inspire each other…. The visual arts inspired the musical arts and vice versa,’ said Robyn Miley, GJSO Marketing and Development Director…. ‘When we’re able to work together, we can pull our members and their members, which there’s a lot of crossovers. So, it just enhances what we’re both doing,’ said Julie Carlson, Marketing and Events Director at the Art Center of Western Colorado. They also believe both visual and musical art can provide benefits for people.” Led by Music Director Charles Latshaw, the concert also featured Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with soloist Kenneth Naito, winner of the Grand Junction Symphony’s Young Artists Competition.
