In Saturday’s (11/20) Connecticut Post, Phyllis A.S. Boros writes, “Texan Benjamin Loeb wears many musical hats, including those of an accomplished conductor, concert pianist, arranger, accompanist, recording artist and educator. And now he comes to Bridgeport to undertake yet another role—that of executive director and ‘forceful advocate’ of the venerable Greater Bridgeport Symphony—and to work with his friend and former mentor, GBS Music Director Gustav Meier. The appointment is effective immediately. … Loeb’s appointment comes at an opportune time as the orchestra begins planning celebrations for Meier’s 40th anniversary season, which will open in October 2011 and run through April 2012. … The founder and former executive/musical director of the El Paso Symphony Youth Orchestra, Loeb is a native Texan who received a bachelor of arts degree in music from Harvard University in 1989.” On November 19, the Board of Directors of the New Hampshire Music Festival announced Loeb’s appointment as the festival’s 2010 music director, effective December 1. Loeb will work with NHMF to design and develop the 2011 concert programs and other musical activities. He will be in residence for the summer and will conduct concerts.
