South Carolina’s Greenville Symphony Orchestra will open its January 23 concert with a tribute to C. Thomas Wyche, a Greenville-based community leader, attorney, pianist, composer, and longtime supporter of the Greenville Symphony who died in 2015. The orchestra concert will open with the world premiere of Wyche’s Moonbeams, in an arrangement by Music Director Edvard Tchivzhel. Wyche promoted the rejuvenation of downtown Greenville and spearheaded conservation efforts that resulted in the protection of more than 100,000 acres of land in the South Carolina mountains. Also on the program are Grieg’s Peer Gynt Suite, Op. 23, and Sibelius’s Symphony No. 2. Paul Hyde will give pre-concert talks at performances of the program at Peace Center Concert Hall on January 23 and 24.
