Boston’s Longwood Symphony Orchestra has appointed Hannah Collins as executive director, effective January 6, 2025. Currently associate professor and string area coordinator at the University of Kansas School of Music, Collins has held teaching and administrative positions at Greenwood Music Camp, Avaloch Farm Music Institute, and Kneisel Hall, a chamber music festival in Maine. With the Boston-based chamber orchestra A Far Cry, she has served as a cellist, co-artistic director, and board member. An alumna of Ensemble Connect, the fellowship program of Carnegie Hall, the Juilliard School, and the Weill Music Institute, Collins has focused on combining musical artistry, teaching, community engagement, advocacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership. Collins graduated summa cum laude with a BS in biomedical engineering from Yale University. She received her Masters of Music and Artist Diploma from the Yale School of Music, and her Doctor of Musical Arts from the City University of New York. Founded in 1982, the Longwood Symphony Orchestra seeks to combine the healing arts of music and medicine. The orchestra’s members are primarily healthcare professionals, researchers, medical students, therapists, and caregivers, many of whom pursued advanced musical studies before turning to medicine.
