In Friday’s (12/9) Patriot-News (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania), David N. Dunkle reports, “Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra music director Stuart Malina was named the winner of Theatre Harrisburg’s 2012 Award for Distinguished Service to the Arts in the Capital Region. Malina, in his 11th season as conductor of HSO, was chosen for his extraordinary contribution to the arts. ‘Under Stuart’s leadership, the Harrisburg Symphony is certainly one of the pre-eminent cultural institutions in the capital region,’ Theatre Harrisburg executive director Sam Kuba said. The community theater’s biannual arts awards are given to an individual and an institution. The 2012 institutional award will go to HACC’s Rose Lehrman Arts Center and its Live at Rose Lehrman performance series. Winners are selected by a committee of past honorees or their representatives. The 2012 awards will be given out April 29 during a gala at Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts in Harrisburg.”
