The Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director David Danzmayr have announced details of the 2014-15 season, featuring seven concerts at Lincoln-Way North Performing Arts Center in Frankfort, three concerts at Rialto Square Theatre in Joliet, two “IPO Presents” multi-disciplinary events, and a weeklong residency with Project Trio. Orchestral highlights include William Grant Still’s The American Scene “The East”; Gabriela Lena Frank’s Elegia Andina; and works by Elgar, Beethoven, Brahms, Sibelius, and Shostakovich. The first of two “IPO Presents” programs, Cello + Chocolate: An Exploration of the Senses, will be held in partnership with Chicago-based chocolatier Vosges Haut Chocolat and will feature a solo recital by cellist Joshua Roman, with each work accompanied by a truffle selected by Roman. Also planned is a weekend-long Festival 2015: The Power of Music, featuring a screening of the film Following the Ninth, about Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony; a lecture by University of Michigan musicologist Jason Geary; and a recital featuring with Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Martinez and principal musicians of the IPO. Project Trio—flutist Greg Patillo, cellist Eric Stephenson, and bassist Peter Seymour—will be in residence from April 27 to May 3, participating in events at local schools, libraries, and community centers, and performing as soloists with the orchestra.
