“The Jacksonville Symphony is celebrating its 50th season,” writes Nick Kovatch Tuesday (8/14) on the WLDS 1180 AM/WEAI 107.1 FM news site. “ ‘Our Golden Anniversary Season,’ led by Music Director Garrett Allman, will feature special guest ensembles, virtuoso soloists, and the world premiere of a new composition by a local composer. The season opens September 29th. Guest pianist Carolbeth True performs Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue, and the orchestra presents perpetual favorites, including Dvorak’s New World Symphony and Festive Overture by Shostakovich. … The golden season concludes on May 4th with a joint presentation with the Illinois College Fine Arts Series. Virtuoso pianist and former Miss Illinois Jade Simmons performs. The orchestra will also give the world premiere of a new work commissioned by the Symphony Society. It’s currently being composed by IC professor and renowned composer Timothy Kramer. The new composition, uniquely written for Jacksonville, is expected to include subtle hints of thematic material from the MacMurray College and Illinois College alma mater hymns.” MacMurray College and Illinois College are both located in Jacksonville.
