The Juilliard School has announced an international collaboration with two Mexican cultural agencies that will bring Juilliard faculty, alumni, and administrators to three of Mexico’s foremost professional music schools. Visits to the schools—the Conservatorio Nacional de Música, Escuela Superior de Música, and Escuela Superior de Música y Danza de Monterrey—will begin in January 2012 and continue through May. Following an initial weeklong assessment period that includes teaching and public master classes, Juilliard will conduct a roundtable discussion moderated by Juilliard President Joseph Polisi. Written reports and recommendations will be issued to each school covering teaching strategies, academic curriculum, and management issues, similar to the certification of standards regularly undertaken at Juilliard and other U.S. post-secondary institutions. A formal signing ceremony and press conference announcing the collaboration took place on October 18 in Mexico City between Juilliard and the cultural agencies: Consejo Nacional Para La Cultura y Las Artes (CONACULTA) and the Instituto Nacional de Bellas Artes y Literatura (INBAL).
