The new Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Missouri, whose grand opening is scheduled for September 16, has launched Open Doors, an education initiative aiming to make performances accessible to children and families throughout the Kansas City metro area. Beginning this summer, Open Doors will provide funding to metro-area schools for bus transportation for students to attend matinee performances during the upcoming school year. Also included in the initiative are free or reduced-price tickets to Kauffman Center programming for children and families, and opportunities for students to perform at the Kauffman Center. Resident companies at the Kauffman Center are the Kansas City Symphony, Kansas City Ballet, and Lyric Opera of Kansas City.
