“The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra announced today that Kelly Tweeddale will be the new president of the orchestra and the VSO School of Music,” writes Kevin Griffin in Thursday’s (9/24) Vancouver Sun (Vancouver, Canada). “Tweeddale starts Monday, Nov. 16. Tweeddale is currently executive director of Seattle Opera, a position she has held for 13 years…. She said she was thrilled about becoming part of the VSO and working with Maestro Bramwell Tovey and the VSO school of music. They have, she said, made classical music a part of ‘everyday life in Vancouver.’ … One of her goals is to use new technology to help the orchestra connect with its audience…. She also hopes to build on what the VSO has done to make The Orpheum open to the community and ‘a gathering place—a place people want to be.’ Previously, Tweeddale held positions that have included the Seattle Opera’s director of marketing and communications and the Cleveland Orchestra’s director of marketing and public affairs…. She replaces Jeff Alexander, the VSO’s former president, who left the VSO last September to become president of the Chicago Symphony.”
