In California, the La Jolla Symphony and Chorus has announced its 2009-10 season, which will include six programs at San Diego’s Mandeville Auditorium at the University of California from October to June under Music Director Steven Schick and Choral Director David Chase. The season opens with two concerts featuring Bartók’s Miraculous Mandarin and Romanian Folk Songs, Golijov’s Three Songs with soprano Susan Narucki, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Other works scheduled to be performed during the season are Britten’s War Requiem; Janácek’s Glagolitic Mass; Mozart’s Symphony Nos. 40 and 41; Bernstein’s Mass; Ives’s Three Places in New England; Szymanowski’s Symphonie Concertante for Piano and Orchestra, with soloist Peter Gach; and Lou Harrison’s Concerto for Pipa and String Orchestra, with Wu Man as soloist.
