The Las Vegas Philharmonic’s “Battle Born—Nevada Proud!” concert on January 18, celebrating the 150th anniversary of Nevada’s statehood, was recorded for future telecast on Vegas PBS. Donato Cabrera—who grew up in Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada—led the concert at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts, which featured Equus, a work by Eric Whitacre, an alumnus of UNLV, as well as works by Britten, Mendelssohn, and Debussy. The concert will be aired on Vegas PBS in April and again on Nevada Day next October; Reno public television station KNPB has also agreed to broadcast the concert in 2014. The concert is the first by the Las Vegas Philharmonic to be aired on Vegas PBS.
