In Tuesday’s (9/24) WNMU-FM (Marquette, Michigan), Kurt Hauswirth reports, “The Marquette Symphony Orchestra (MSO) is set to open its 2024-25 season with ‘Latin Strings,’ a dynamic concert on Saturday, October 5th, at 7:30 p.m. at Kaufman Auditorium. The performance will feature renowned guitarist Jiji, known for her mastery of both flamenco and electric guitar. She’ll bring a unique flavor to the symphony’s repertoire, blending classical and Latin styles…. Music Director and Conductor Octavio Más-Arocas, who hails from Spain, has curated a rich program that includes works from both Spanish and Latin American composers, with selections that promise to transport listeners through vibrant, rhythmic landscapes. Beyond the October concert, Williams highlighted exciting plans for the season, including a holiday concert in December and a tribute to Stephen Sondheim in January. The season finale, in collaboration with local folk band The Knockabouts, will be another cross-genre blend that MSO audiences have come to love.” The WNMU report features a conversation with Marquette Symphony Board President Cole Williams.
