On three dates in the coming weeks, the League of American Orchestras will present “Creating Fairer Audition and Tenure Processes,” a webinar that will support orchestra stakeholders in their own identification and management of bias in audition and tenure processes. Jessica Schmidt of Orchestrate Inclusion will offer context around the importance of practicing recognition of implicit bias in the field and will lead group exploration of auditions and hiring processes, trial weeks, and tenure. The two-hour workshop is especially designed for individuals in the field who have direct connection to audition and tenure policy creation, decision-making, and implementation. It will encourage shared examination of where and how biases can appear in audition and tenure settings, equipping attendees with early-stage strategies to improve fairness and inclusion.
The “Creating Fairer Audition and Tenure Processes” workshop will be run three times: on Monday, March 17 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern / Noon Pacific Time; on Tuesday, March 18 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern / 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time; and on Thursday, April 3 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern / Noon Pacific Time. Space is limited. Please register for whichever date works best to attend the event live, as these sessions will not be recorded and will not be available on-demand.
These workshops are presented as part of the League’s Inclusive Stages program, made possible by a generous grant from the Sakana Foundation.
