In the January 15 Nola.com, Keith Spera writes, “Nearly 20 years after Hurricane Katrina, trumpeter and composer Terence Blanchard’s 2007 album ‘A Tale of God’s Will (A Requiem for Katrina)’ endures as one of the most eloquent, evocative and emotional artistic responses to an especially tragic chapter of New Orleans history. Blanchard won a Grammy Award for ‘A Tale of God’s Will’ and moved audiences to tears. But he never performed the album in its entirety. Not quite three weeks into Katrina’s 20th anniversary year, he finally will. On Saturday, Blanchard and his E-Collective sextet share the Orpheum Theater stage with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by music director Matthew Kraemer. They’ll perform ‘A Tale of God’s Will (A Requiem for Katrina)’ as a benefit for the LPO’s various educational programs. Saturday’s concert will include photos from the storm’s aftermath assembled in a progression by visual artist Andrew F. Scott. The show’s visual element prompted the LPO to include a cautionary message on its website: ‘Please be advised that these photographs may evoke an emotional response for some patrons.’ Even without the photos, ‘A Tale of God’s Will,’ with its solemn dignity and quiet strength, evokes an emotional response.”
