In Monday’s (1/28) Courier-Journal (Louisville, Kentucky), Elizabeth Kramer writes, “The Louisville Orchestra board of directors today named orchestra industry consultant David Hyslop as the interim chief executive officer to succeed Robert Birman, whose resignation, effective Feb. 1, was announced earlier this month. It also announced the board has voted Brown-Forman Corp. vice chairman Jim Welch as its president-elect to assume his duties when current president Charles ‘Chuck’ Maisch’s term ends in May. … Hyslop’s career in arts management began in the 1960s and has included CEO positions at the Minnesota Orchestra (1991-2003), the St. Louis Symphony (1978-1991) and the Oregon Symphony (1972-1978). While Hyslop has his own arts consulting firm, he also has acted as interim CEO of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra, Tulsa Symphony Orchestra and The Dallas Symphony Orchestra. Welch has been a board member of the Louisville Fund for the Arts for nearly five years and in 2010 chaired its annual fundraising campaign. He has also served on the boards of the Downtown Development Corp. and Greater Louisville Inc. … Welch is among several new members the board has recruited in recent months.”
