“The Louisville Orchestra continues to play to the times,” writes Kirby Adams in Tuesday’s (10/7) Louisville Courier-Journal (KY). “On Saturday, the 83-year-old musical institution combined two powerful and unforetold forces as it launched its 2020-2021 season. ‘A Concert for Healing,’ which was live-streamed due to the coronavirus pandemic, included a debut orchestral arrangement dedicated to the memory of Breonna Taylor, a woman who was fatally shot inside her home by Louisville police in March. Bass-baritone Davóne Tines joined the Louisville Orchestra for the debut performance of [his own composition] ‘Vigil’ which paid tribute to Taylor. The virtual season launch also featured ‘Starburst’ by Jessie Montgomery and Beethoven’s Third Symphony. ‘I am very proud of my Louisville Orchestra family for uniting around a shared vision for what a musical institution can and should be at a time like this,’ said Music Director Teddy Abrams…. Until it is safe to bring crowds back together, the orchestra will continue to make music through four online concerts. [Saturday’s] performance will be available on-demand beginning Oct. 9. Additionally, each of its three upcoming performances will be available as live performances and then for on-demand viewing at any time.”
