A report Thursday (7/7) on the WSET-TV ABC Channel 13 (Virginia) website states, “After a rough few years, the Lynchburg Symphony Orchestra has received a much needed financial boost. Back in late 2008 when the economy tanked, donations plummeted too. Last year, they weren’t sure if the organization could continue. But now, the Virginia Commission of the Arts is awarding the orchestra a $6,000 grant to support its general operating fund. The board president says this is great news for the community because there’s a lot more to the orchestra than just three or four concerts a year. ‘It’s also for the education of our children. We have a wonderful outreach program in the schools where we go and do performances for the children and talk to them about music in general,’ said Stephenson. The Symphony’s next performance is September 25th and will have a Civil War theme.”
