The Marilyn Horne Foundation and Carnegie Hall have announced that Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute will take on the core programs of the Marilyn Horne Foundation beginning in July 2010. The Marilyn Horne Foundation will continue its current activities through June 2010, including one last The Song Continues… festival in January 2010. (The Song Continues… has been produced in partnership with the Weill Music Institute since 2004.) After the foundation’s core programs move to the Weill Music Institute, Marilyn Horne will remain as artistic advisor. Other programs of the foundation, such as “On Wings of Song,” will be absorbed into Carnegie Hall’s free Neighborhood Concert Series in New York City. The foundation was launched in 1994 on Marilyn Horne’s 60th birthday, with a mission “to encourage, support, and preserve the art of the vocal recital through the presentation of vocal recitals and related education activities; and to promote and encourage exceptionally gifted young vocal recitalists and vocal accompanists.” The Weill Music Institute programs serve more than 115,000 children, students, teachers, parents, young music professionals, and adults in the New York City metropolitan area and across the U.S., as well as around the world through online and distance-learning initiatives.
