Google Play Music’s classical-music portal Classical Live has announced a partnership with the American Public Media radio organization, through which Classical Live’s catalog will be featured at the APM website and on APM-distributed programs including Performance Today and Symphony Cast. Google Play’s Classical Live venture, since its launch in 2015, has featured on-demand streaming audio and digital downloads of recordings of live performances by the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam. The catalog also includes recordings from London Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. In conjunction with this week’s announcement, the New York Philharmonic’s recording of the “Winter” movement from Vivaldi’s Four Seasons featuring Concertmaster Frank Huang will be available as a free digital download beginning on October 19. The download will be available free of charge for eight days at APM and for 90 days at Google Play. Brad Althoff, managing producer for national classical programs at America Public Media, described the partnership as an “ideal” way to increase availability of orchestral music.
