
The Mainly Mozart Festival Orchestra, comprising concertmasters and principal musicians from multiple U.S. orchestras, performs at the Epstein Family Amphitheater in San Diego.
In Tuesday’s (6/18) Times of San Diego, an unbylined article states, “The Mainly Mozart All-Star Orchestra comes together each year in San Diego and the artistry, focused on classical music’s finest works, begins Thursday. The orchestra, led by Maestro Michael Francis, will perform six unique concerts at two La Jolla venues: the new Epstein Family Amphitheater on June 27 and 29, with two shows at The Conrad in between, on June 23 and 25. This year’s orchestra roster includes concertmasters and principal players from 30 orchestras, including the San Diego Symphony. Other featured companies include the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Cleveland Orchestra, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Delaware Symphony, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, LA Phil, National Symphony Orchestra, Oregon Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, ROCO, San Francisco Symphony, Tucson Symphony Orchestra, and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Soloists set for the festival include pianist Georgi Li, vocalists Erica Petrocelli and Babatunde Akinboboye, cellist Robert DeMaine, and violinist Stefan Jackiw. Programs, naturally, include Mozart, but also Beethoven, Saint-Saëns, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and Gabriel Fauré.”
