The Juilliard School has released Juilliard Open Studios, a subscription-based app for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch, offering a backstage look at the school’s classes, rehearsals, coachings, and productions. The app, available in both English and Chinese, launched on May 28 with seven episodes. During the first year, the app will feature Juilliard faculty and alumni such as Emanuel Ax, Terese Capucilli, Wynton Marsalis, and Stephen Wadsworth. The app includes interactive features such as layer-in-layer video, circle insights, voice-over commentary, interviews, and scrolling dance guides, scripts, and scores. Juilliard Open Studios was developed by Juilliard Digital with Touchpress, the company whose previous apps include Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, The Elements, and Liszt Sonata in B Minor. In June, Juilliard Digital will release a second app, the single-download Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden” Quartet, with the Juilliard String Quartet.
